The DIPUPILOT project develops and validates circular economy processes for demolition in a practical demolition site by utilizing digitalization. The goal of DIPUPILOT is to monitor and test the processes of using a building’s digital information in a real demolition site (a pilot). The demolition site is carried out by an external party. A sub-goal for the site, in line with the circular economy, is for parts of the demolition building chosen by the owner to be reused in a subsequent construction project. This eliminates carbon emissions from manufacturing these parts and the use of virgin raw materials. Observations are collected from the implementation of the demolition site and the use of digital information, from the planning phase of the demolition contract until the parts intended for reuse are successfully stored. The observations made at the pilot site are analyzed and compared to the processes from previously implemented development projects (Digipurku, Uuraket).
Based on the results of the pilot site, a public digital demolition concept proposal will be created detailing how the process was implemented at that particular demolition site. The resulting concept proposal will serve as useful background information and a process proposal for the reuse of building parts for designers and implementers of future demolition sites and projects.
The project keeps contact with experts, developers, and networks in the demolition circular economy scheme. The project will organize a workshop where the observations made during the project are presented, and the circular economy implementation method for the demolition site is co-developed. Additionally, the project’s outputs will be disseminated to a wider audience at a circular economy event in the construction sector.
